The Colorado Climate Project was convened by the Rocky Mountain Climate Organization to bring Coloradans together to reduce the state’s contribution and vulnerability to climate change. In the first phase of the project, a blue-ribbon Climate Action Panel worked for a year to develop 70 recommendations for reducing emissions of heat-trapping greenhouse gases and preparing for the changes that may be coming. Altogether, 116 panel members, alternates, and participants in supporting Policy Work Groups worked to produce the panel’s final report.

The project has now moved to seeking consideration, adoption, and implementation of the panel’s recommendations. Shortly after the panel’s recommendations were adopted, Colorado Governor Bill Ritter, Jr., announced a Colorado Climate Agenda which includes the goals for reducing Colorado’s emissions 20% by 2020 and 80% by 2050, compared to 2005 levels, just as recommended by the Climate Action Panel. The Rocky Mountain Climate Organization, working with the 116 participants who shaped the panel’s recommendations, will continue working with the state government, local governments, water providers, and others for adoption and implementation of other panel recommendations.
